One of the most fun aspects of our trip to Vancouver for me, was watching Lee look at the big big trees. I took him to Cliff Gilker park, a breathlessly beautiful sanctuary on the Sunshine Coast, and one of my favourite places. The trees there are majestic and magical, and Lee walked around with his jaw hanging open, and the kids jumped and climbed, and put themselves into grave danger with great delight. I grew up with those trees, and while I love the landscape of BC, my heart (perhaps surprisingly) is in New Brunswick. I think Lee was starting to become beglamoured by the west, so I guess we came back just in time. New Brunswick is a slow burn, backwards, uncool. That’s ok with me.
