We have our first meeting just a week before little Zolanie’s arrival. The beautiful young father doesn’t even want to speak, he is so uncomfortable with the idea of home birth. The mother, K., is utterly, unsinkingly steadfast, determined, courageous. She radiates love for her family. She leads.

In a matter of days, something shifts. Then, the waves start rolling. With the sun streaming into the room, the gorgeous brave mother ecstatically releases her baby into a pool of warm water, while she rests on her partner’s body, as he strokes her hair, and whispers words of encouragement, projecting calm, serenity and adoration. They are all transformed: parents, siblings, proud grandmother.

Afterwards, K. describes Zolanie’s birth as “waves of pressure”; pleasure, relief, ecstasy. Zolanie is her third baby, after a hospital c-section, then a hospital VBAC. Welcome, little girl.
