We had a busy day. Friends, food, pottery, partying. When things got to be too much, we donned our gear and crossed the road and went down to the river. All was pale grays and blues, and frost clinging to the edges of everything. The kids’ chatter slowed, and I watched them absorbing the landscape, and exploring. Taste the ice, learn how to fall again, see the washed magenta sky. I like the way free and happy kids scatter, walking confidently away. And then, a little later on, apple cheeked, Mummy I’m cold, take me back home…
