My father died eight days ago.  I found out when my sister called me during the lunch break in the middle of the first workshop (ironically on the topic of bereavement and loss) of the Indiebirth Midwifery conference.

Lee and I left Sedona and drove back to Phoenix Arizona, but after trying unsuccessfully to find a flight back to Vancouver that day, we went back to Sedona, and I decided to give the talk I was slated to present after all. You can watch it here:

I was having a very hard time focusing, or even functioning that day. My talk wasn’t quite what I had envisioned, but I’m proud to have followed through.

I wish I had had the wherewithal to connect with the many amazing, brilliant women who were there.  I hope to have the opportunity to see some of those women again in the coming years.
