As was the case in so many other places in North America, our December was so so very cold. Weeks of twenty below (celcius!) and colder temperatures. We crept outside to feel the sun on our faces as much as possible, but the kids would start to cry, and we’d scuttle back in. And I admit that there were many days when we didn’t venture out at all. I did feel quite pathetic, there are people who live in the North after all–and Winnipeg. Alas, I’m a sensitive former-Vancouverite. Actually, during our semi-crisis over the holidays, I was confronted with a bit of a proposal from family that would have involved us moving back to the west coast. We fantasized for a week or so, and then realized that we can’t leave New Brunswick. Or that New Brunswick hasn’t beaten us yet…Something along those lines.

Lee has a thing for predicting the weather. He’s our resident old man, with achy joints. (He also loves theweathernetwork.com). On the most frigid of days these past weeks, Lee promised that there would be a January thaw, and here it is. The snow is melting, and it was so warm today that we went for a walk without hats or mittens. I do know that this is nature’s practical joke, but it’s nice to have some respite from the cold.

The plastic light-saber was *the* Christmas hit. Santa doesn’t usually go for stuff like that (at our house), but it was the only specifically requested item, and he just couldn’t resist. At least there are no batteries involved. I’ve kept my disapproval to myself 😉 Good old Santa.
