I finally released part two of the podcast story of Xanthe’s birth. It was difficult for me to process her birth on many levels, but I’m so glad I finally was able to pull it together. I’m so moved by the response I’ve received so far–especially since I’ve included audio footage of the actual birth, in the episode.

One of the most touching comments came from a mother who I know from the birth community in New Brunswick. This mum had a first birth in the hospital, but ended up birthing at home with he second, and was totally transformed by the experience. She wrote the following about Part two of Xanthe’s birth (Episode 11 in my podcast series):

“This was so incredibly moving! I’m so glad I took the time to listen. I felt transported to that magical, enveloping state of birth that is both so destructive and rehabilitative. I want to weep to think I almost missed knowing this. I am still so in tune with the way I used to view birth and the way most women in our culture still do. I remember comforting myself in that place of intensity by telling myself I’d never have to do it again, but ever since all I can think about is how I want to experience that power again and go deep within myself and into another realm through the portal of birth. What a privilege it is to have access to that place and to know the secrets that lie there. I am alive like I’ve never been before. I am in tune in a way I didn’t know was possible. Never again will I forget who I am and what I am capable of. Never again will I submit or be silenced . Oh, birth! How incredible it is to birth fiercely and unapologetically.” Heidi is a talented photographer in the Moncton area, and you can check out her work her.
